With that in mind, we traveled recently to Ryogoku, the heart of sumo in Tokyo, to pin one of these little-known giants down and find out what makes them tick.
Who are these mysterious men wearing next-to-nothing on our television screens every night? What made them get into sumo in the first place? What makes them continue plugging away despite the hardships and relative obscurity? And what, pray tell, do they do in their spare time aside from eat, sleep and train?
Our target: No. 12 maegashira Futeno.
