Wakaimonogashira ---
Sewanin : OKO (former Makuuchi Oko)
Tokoyama ---

Thank you very much for this great website Fayme_Kln. It's such a delight to have all the news in a known language! :wink:
I hope that you'll go on updating it regularly.

Voici l'adresse (http://fujimori.club.fr/Members-fr.html#News).

Tres belle photo Kitano! Merci d'avance a tous!

Vienna_Logan
07/08/2006, 14h18

Desole!

Sorry I write this in english, but it's a lot easier for me.

As already was written, not all heya allow visitors, or somtimes they do, sometimes not. Sometimes you have to call in advance and I think you should do it because sometimes the heya is crowded with visitors. But I only did this once. Of course you should be quiet and not walk around.
I always could take pictures, I did them without using flashlight, but Sadogatake even said it would be no problem to use it. You should ask in advance.
I had no bad experience at all, I asked politely if I could visit the morningtraining (in my bad japanese) and there was no problem. Of course there were some heya I didn't try as Oshima, because I was told they never allow visitors but perhaps I'll go there in september, they can't do more than saying no to me. Of course you don't have to pay for the visit. I took a present for Kaio and the other rikishi, when I went to Tomozuna, and they were very happy, but you don't have to do it.

I hope this helps and sorry for writing this in english ...

Some news from Tomozuna Beya:

All rikishi except Kaio returned safe to Tokyo from Osaka & Ise-jingu (Ise-shrine) Jungyo which was held last Sunday (1st, April).

Ise-shrine is one of the big and famous shrines with deep history in Japan.

(For your info: Ise shrine)

Sumo-jungyo held at Ise-shrine is the customary event.

From Monday (2nd, April), our four shindeshi(new disciples) start schooling to the Kyoshu-jo (a school where all shindeshi go to for their first six months).

Kaio has spent his time for his treatment after Osaka-basho. He will come back to Tokyo after Odawara Jungyo which is held on Friday (6th, April). Kainowaka and Kainohama go to Odawara Jungyo from Tokyo and will join Kaio.

By the way…. One of the famous food in Osaka is “Tako-yaki”. Kaio loves Tako-yaki. One day before Osaka-basho, he explored he liked Tako-yaki eating them in one minute…!

Tako-yaki is literary translated in English as “Fried Octopus-ball.” Of course, you can eat Tako-yaki anywhere in Japan. However, Tako-yaki in Osaka is especially delicious. Base-stock is soup made with flower and eggs, and put the soup in a special pan. Put chopped octopus, chopped leeks (scallions), etc, in them and fried in round-shape…

Put some toppings on them such as pieces of dried bonito, green laver, chopped leeks (scallions), Japanese dressing, mayonnaise, etc. The surface is crisped and the inside is creamy.

The base-stock is the key of Tako-yaki. Every Tako-yaki shop has its own delicacy, which is usually secret.

We hope the following pictures help your imagination.

The tsukibito of Kaio for Nagoya-basho are Kainowaka, Kainohama, Kainomiya and Kainoryu.

Our shindeshi (Kainomiya, Kainoryu, Kainokura and Kainofuji) take turns to work as members of Kaio’s tsukibito

For Kaio, they are just a bit “passengers”, but it will be a good experience for them.

They have already been overwhelmed by Kaio’s ability and popularity.

Kaio, Kainowaka and Kaisenryu returned from Hawaii. Kainowaka was there to perform Shokkiri, Kaisenryu to be Kaio's tsukibito.

On the 12th of June it was Oyakata’s birthday…. We had a little party…

Everybody said, “Happy Birthday, Eiji!!!” cheerfully…..but, Kainohama seems to be a bit sad… The cake must be too small for him…..

http://www.tomozuna-beya-fansite.com/Tomozuna%20Beya/images/Kainohama2007_3.jpg

So, it was a joke! The cake for him was hidden.

Now he received a big cake with a tag saying “Happy Birthday, Eiji!”.

Kainohama is happy!

In Nagoya……..

There are a lot of activities in Nagoya besides doing keiko.

On 26th, 27th and 28th June, Kaio and other Tomozuna-rikishi visited nursing homes and kindergartens (pre-schools) in the afternoon.

On 30th, an “encouragement party” was held. We were encouraged by a lot of people who attended the party. Kaisei joined the Senshuraku-party in Nagoya last year. But, he had just joined our heya, therefore, nobody remembered that Kaisei was at the party last year. Now, one year later, he returned to Nagoya with his new rank – Upper Sandanme. Everybody was surprised and sent him a lot of cheers!! Kainomiya performed “sumo-zinku (a kind of sumo-song)” with Kainokura, Kainofuji and Kainoryu. They got a huge applause.

All of us enjoyed the party.

Yesterday (2nd July), there were many visitors and everybody had a good time. We enjoyed to communicate with people who care for us – some who are new to us and some whom we know for years….

Today (3rd July) is Kaishoryu’s birthday. We celebrated his birthday with a cake! But… we forgot to take pictures….

Beside our enjoyable and nice activities, we came to know sad news happened in Tokitsukaze-beya.
We pray for the soul of Tokitaizan. We keep this accident in our minds deeply and care for each rikishi’s health and condition more than ever before.

On 17th (Friday), our rikishi returned Tokyo from summer camp.

They all have a good sun-tan!

Yesterday and today are off from Keiko. They woke up late and relaxed the whole day…

Kaio, Kainohama and Kaisei are still on Jungyo tour.

On 20th, Kaio, Kainohama and Kaisei returned to Tokyo from their Jungyo tour.

Through the jungyo-keiko, Kaio could confirm his physical condition – especially his leg-injury.

It was a right decision for him to participate the jungyo tour for its second half.

Kainohama and Kaisei were a bit anxious to join the jungyo because Kainowaka didn’t go this time.

But they seem to become a bit more confident because they could fulfil their job as Kaio’s tsukibito more than they thought.

On the 21st, there was the funeral of former Sadogatake-oyakata. Tomozuna-oyakata and Kaio went to the funeral.

On 22nd, Spanish clues came to our heya to film our keiko and to make an interview with Tomozuna-oyakata, Kaio, Kainohama and Kaisei. They are making a documentary of Japanese culture. The documentary will be broadcasted in Spain… but we don’t know when…

On 24th, our shindeshi – Kainomiya, Kainoryu, Kainokura and Kainofuji – finished schooling to Sumo-Kyoshujo. They will attend a graduation ceremony in September. They tried their best in Kyoshujo!!

Kaishinho as a sub-teacher of Kyoshujo finished his job. He did his job for one year when Kaisei started schooling in August last year. He did his best as well!!!

Every heya is now regulated to have AED system (Automated External Defibrillator, a portable electronic device that automaticially performs deifbrilation on cartiac arest patients.) due to the tragic death of Tokitaizan . Kaishoryu and Kainohama went to a seminar to know how to use it.

Banzuke for Aki-basho is announced today. Kaishinho was promoted to Sandamme which he aimed for a looong time.

But… most of our rikishi are not satisfied with their ranks…. So, they need to win!!!!

On 29th and 30th, there were Rengo-keiko of our clan. On 31st, “Keiko-soken” was held. Kaio attended it, of course! He took Kainowaka for his tsukibito this time.

Today, our rikishi went to Azumazeki-beya for keiko. Takasago-rikishi also came to Azumazeki-beya.

Kaishinho is soooo fine – he is in very good mood. He joined keiko with upper ranked rikishi. He seems to become a bit self-confident. Everybody can easily understand Kaishinho’s character – when he is fine, we know he is; when he is not fine, we all know he is not fine….!

Yesterday was Kainoryu’s birthday. He is now 16 years old!

We celebrate his birthday with a cake!

Kaio had busy days lately… On the 31st, he went to Soken, on 1st he went a party of Chiyotaikai, and yesterday he went to a party of Hakuho for his Yokozuna promotion….

The temperature of Tokyo has been cooling down… Although there will be hot days coming again, it won’t be like the ones in August…

Aki Basho 2007 - Day 01

I missed Kainokura (who won against Hashimoto) and Kainofuji (who won against Takama) cause I didn't want to get out of my cool bed to the heat outside.

So we start with Kainoryu, who just went 16 a few days ago. He had to fight against Saio, a good long fight, in the end he wasn't lucky enough but nevertheless it looked quite good.

http://www.faymesseite.com/Kainoryu.jpg

Tha last shin deshi from Tomozuna, Kainomiya, also had to compete today. His opponent was Tenkaizan. Kainomiya tried to lift Tenkaizan out of the dohyo but wasn't sucessful in the end.

http://www.faymesseite.com/Kainomiya.jpg

http://www.faymesseite.com/Kainomiya2.jpg

His brother had to fight just after him and you can see him here in the background - and he could win!

http://www.faymesseite.com/Kainomiya%20and%20brother.jpg

The next one was Kainohama, he could beat Nagai and get his first win :-).

http://www.faymesseite.com/Kainohama.jpg

http://www.faymesseite.com/Kainohama%20Nagai.jpg

Followed by my "little" Kainowaka (In love...) ;-). He saw me and won - that's the way it should be ;-)

The bout of the day was Takanoyama - Kaishoryu, they fought for at least 4-5 minutes, then the shimpan stopped them and they had to fight again one or two bouts later. Kaishoryu won in the end. It was amazing to see how strong and tough Takanoyama is despite his lightness.

Aki Basho 2007 - Day 02

Too late again cause I had to start with Takanohana beya this morning. So this time I missed Kaisenryu and came just in time for Kaishinho. Fortunately Kaisenryu could win his bout against Komanokuni without me, so I don't need to twit myself ;-).

Kaishinho had Tanno today, much bigger than him, but he could beat him. Seems to be true, what the heya wrote lately, that he is getting more self confidence. Nice bout.

Brazilian Kaisei had Daishoki today and he also got his first win, but I only one bad picture.

http://www.fays-sumogame.com/Kaisei.jpg

Most of the Ozeki are still genki, only Ozeki Kaio's spirit is willing but the flesh is too weak in the moment. Today he had Kisenosato and Kaio didn't learn from Chiyotaikai yesterday. A long bout, in the end the winner was Kisenosato and Kaio still waits for his first win. Kaio 0-2

Day 03

This time I wasn't to late, I even saw some Maezumo bouts, but I didn't prepare my camera early enough and so I missed to shoot Kainofuji's brave win over Tateishi. Only two more Tomozuna rikishi today (except the Ozeki).

Next one was Kaisenryu. I would love to see him having a really good basho. He started with a win on Day 01 but today against Inui he hadn't power enough to get his next one.

Last one Kaio against Hokutoriki. Hokutoriki!!!!! It looked to me as if Kaio showed no defense at all, I hope I am wrong. If he doesn't start to win tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, I think he will go kyujo.

Kaio 0-3

I got this message today from Tomozuna Beya and before I'll put it on the website, I'll post it here:

This morning, Kaio did keiko as usual. He didn't recover from his injury completely; however, he doesn’t want to excuse his last three days’ result with his injury, and he doesn’t want to retire with this situation.

We respect his strong will and his accomplishment in his sumo-career.

He shall move on this basho, next basho and next year… until someday when he is finally burn out… because his fighting spirit is still very, very high! We are watching him, as the ones who have been living with him for 20years, what result he will get in the end.

We appreciate you to cheer him up for his fighting spirits.

We appreciate you to support Kaio as he is the one who loves “sumo” and “being sumo-wrestler” much more than anyone else.

Aki Basho Day 04

Havn't seen Jonokuchi and Jonidan today, so only the results of Kainokura - his second win, Kainoryu - his second loss and Kainomiya - his first win and so equal to his brother.

But it was a disastrous day for the lower divisions of Tomozuna, all of them lost and Kaisei and Kainowaka a bit disappointing.

The first one was Kainohama against Daihoyama. kainohama was overwhelmed by his opponent and couldn't do anything against it.

As you can imagine, “the issue” has been broadcasting on TV every single day in Japan.

Yes, this was a very sad accident – or “affair” we should say… People tend to say, “all sumo kyokai is like that!!”…. That’s the way it goes… but, we feel it is a sad phenomenon.

The information via media has a bias against all members of sumo-kyokai. We are disappointed that there are news without evidence. We are disappointed that the news are often irresponsible. For example, we explained the fact, but they didn’t take the story.

Most of sumo wrestlers and other members of Sumo-kyokai (NSK) genuinely live as ordinary people – they dedicate themselves to sumo as their profession.

Why can’t media have any consideration, sympathy and empathy to the majority of members of NSK ?

Can they have a right to hurt innocent people??

Having said that, however, we know that there are a lot of people who understand what we are doing – there are many people who join Tomozuna-fan club; the parents of our rikishi trust us and assure that their sons are fine with us. We are encouraged by all supporters. We bring them up so that they become “gentlemen” not only assumo-wrestlers but also as human beings.

Kaio, too, is worried about this “affair”. Kaio and our other rikishi concern this issue, but they are doing what they can do.

They aim good records in Kyushu!!!

<15th, October>

Kaio is back!!! He appeared in Keiko-ba this morning. Most of us didn’t know that he had returned to Tokyo.

He spent his time for treatment and his own training somewhere outside Tokyo for the past few weeks.

He looks good!!

<16th, October>

One of Japanese famous jockey – Hiroki Goto - came to our heya!!!

We had a nice and a bit “riotous” gathering with guests among “horse-racing”.

He had an encouragement party in Nogata-city – his hometown yesterday. Today, he participated in another encouragement event, “Kyushu-basho thanks event” as “home rikishi”.

As “home rikishi”, Kaio, Kainowaka and Kainokura are paid attention. Their tentions are up and down and up and down and up….. anyway they are busy for events and keiko – of course. They must be a bit tired, but they have a lot of feelings of gratitude for people who support them.

Tomorrow is off from keiko. All our rikishi need to relax before the basho.

<11th, November - Shonichi>

Kitanoumi rijicho (the chief director of NSK) did a customary greeting with the 8 highest rikishi. He mentioned the issue of series of unhappy events of Sumo-kyokai (you know what it means…), and apologized for it. Then, the audience warmly responded shouting “Gambare!!!” There were a lot of cheers shouting “Kaio!!” as well.

Then, later, when Kaio walked in an auditorium for his bout, there was a huge applause and cheers “Kaio!!”. The “Kaio call” went on until he finished the bout. Kaio is a happy man!

<Comment – 3rd December>

It’s already December…

Kaio and his tsukibito went to the Jungyo yesterday.

The rest of our members came back from Fukuoka.

Kainohama finally got out of the hospital on the 1st.

Holiday season is over. Now it is time to start training for Hatsubasho!

<Kaishoryu> http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x153/Martina_Fayme/Tomozuna%20Kyushu2007/kaishoryuBild316.jpg

* About Kyushu-basho:
I had always got Kachikoshi in Kyushu, but I couldn’t get one this year as I lost four bouts straight…
The last three continuous wins encouraged me to move on Hatubasho!
* About this year:
I was injured in Hatsubasho, which made a difficult year for me. I will try to get the best winning score among our rikishi next year!

<Kainohama> http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x153/Martina_Fayme/Tomozuna%20Kyushu2007/Bild330kainohama.jpg

* About this year:
It was so regrettable that I couldn’t fight in Kyushu with my best ranking. Now, I am doing rehabilitation so that I can go back on the dohyo as soon as possible. Then, I will try to get my best ranking again as soon as possible!!

<Kainowaka> http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x153/Martina_Fayme/Tomozuna%20Kyushu2007/Bild1731Kainowaka.jpg

* About Kyushu-basho:
I, again, got makekoshi…. What a shame on me!!! I will try my best to accumulate many ☆!next year!!
* About this year:
My score was not so well throughout this year. I want to get Kachikoshi for all 6 basho!
Thank you for your support!

<Kaishinho> http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x153/Martina_Fayme/Tomozuna%20Kyushu2007/KaishinhoBild954.jpg

* About Kyushu-basho:
I got Kachikoshi 4-3, again! I got Kachikoshi for two basho straight with my best ranking. I will try my best to get Kachikoshi continuously next year.
* About this year
It was a fruitful year for me. I will do more training and more keiko, and I want to make my 2008 much more wonderful.

<Kaisei> http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x153/Martina_Fayme/Tomozuna%20Kyushu2007/kaiseiBild2225.jpg

* About Kyushu-basho:
I got Makekoshi with 3-4. I will do more training and more keiko, and I want to get Kachikoshi next basho.
* About this year:
I could climb up my ranking smoothly in the first half, but Sandamme was a huge block to go through, but I aim to move up to Makushita next year!

<Kaisenryu> http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x153/Martina_Fayme/Tomozuna%20Kyushu2007/Bild380.jpg

* About this year:
I get Kachikoshi only for two basho…. I will get Kachikoshi at least three basho next year.

<Kainomiya> http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x153/Martina_Fayme/Tomozuna%20Kyushu2007/KainomiyaBild1637.jpg

* About this year:
In March, I did “Ichiban-shusse”, and it was a good start. However, from May, my record ended with 14wins 14losses…. I was not satisfied with my record. I will try my best to get more wins less losses.
* Hope in the new year
I will make my new menu of Keiko. I want to build my body up so that I won’t get an injury. I want to aim 5 or 6 wins in each basho.

<Kainofuji> http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x153/Martina_Fayme/Tomozuna%20Kyushu2007/kainofujiBild446.jpg

* About Kyushu basho:
I first got two straight wins, so I thought I would be able to get Kachikoshi….but, I lost the next five bouts straight….
I regret that I was too easy going… I will try my best to get Kachikoshi next basho.
* About this year:
Since I became a rikshi in March, I have had kachikoshi only for one-basho. I want to get Kachikoshi at least for three basho in the new year.

<Kainokura> http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x153/Martina_Fayme/Tomozuna%20Kyushu2007/KainokuraBild2405.jpg

* About Kyushu-basho
I did good keiko before the basho and I could move smoothly in keiko, however, I couldn’t move enough on the dohyo in hon-basho… I want to get used to fight in hon-basho, and I want to expose my full energy in the basho.
* About this year:
I was injured a lot… so I want to build my body up and to keep a good health.

<Kainoryu> http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x153/Martina_Fayme/Tomozuna%20Kyushu2007/KainoryuBild1139.jpg

* About Kyushu-basho:
I thought I would be able to get a good result before the basho, however, I lost my self confidence whenever I did keiko with Anideshi…therefore, I did Makekoshi in the end…. I lost three bouts straight from Shonichi, but I won two bouts straight… then, I thought I might be able to…. Then, I did makekoshi… I think it was my weak point, so I want to develop myself mentally strong.
* About this year:
I got Kachikoshi only for one basho… I will do keiko much more than the other members who joined this year and aim the best rank among them. I want to be more responsible for daily life – chanko…and clearning…

<7th December>

Three-days-Jungyo in Kyushu are over "peacefully" with a major topic (lol) as you know

Kaio was the only ozeki who attended the jungyo for all three days.

Everybody came back to Tokyo by now. They moaned, "I am tired", but they seem to be very fine!

Kaio started doing keiko in Tokyo. He also goes for treatment considering his condition and schedule.

Today, we were preparing to send sumo-calendars to our supporters.

We put "Tomozuna-beya" stamps on them - 1200 calenders - and packed each of them in a box, attached a letter.

It is quite a big chore, but the work was done quickly and smoothly before dinner!

We think we can deliver our hearts as well!!!

<10th, December>

Our Senshuraku party in Tokyo will be held in our heya from next January!!

Let's show the hall - we put wooden boards over the dohyo.

So, you can see a different atmosphere.

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x153/Martina_Fayme/Tomozuna%20Kyushu2007/Keikoba1207.jpg

( oh, oh, is this a sign ... less money and less sponsors because of Kaio's intai? )

Oh, by the way! Last night, Kainowaka and Kaisenryu were appointed for Shokkiri for an event.

Audience laughed out loudly by their performance, which is successful!!!

The Gyoji praised them too!

The Senshuraku Party was always held in a big hotel, which is much more expensive than in the heya ... so I started a bit of a speculation.

Tomozuna himself did millions of de-geiko during his active-rikishi days. After he became a “shisho”, he took Kaio and other rikishi to do de-geiko to many heya asking permission. Kaio has also done so many de-geiko getting a lot of information for his best keiko. Therefore, this time, Tomozuna was distressful to refuse yokozuna’s de-geiko.

He decided this action with his thoughts as “shisho” and with his responsibility. We are happy that many people support him, and at the same time, we are sad that some people don’t understand him.

Tomozuna and Takasago-oyakata are friends for more than 20years. They have talked, have discussed, have exchanged opinions for many times. This relationship will be the same from now on as well.

Local “Mochi-tsuki (Japanese traditional rice-cake making)” event was held today.

Traditionally, we eat “mochi” on the new year’s day. So, there are a lot of “mochitsuki” events all over Japan this season. But, usually, they eat “mochi” as soon as it is made…

Put steamed rice in a wooden mortar (quern??), and then, as you can see… one kneads and one strikes…

Rikishi from Azumazeki-beya came to watch as welll.

“Mochi” was delicious with many ways of cooking – and with many toppings…

So, we forgot to take pictures when we eat…

Today is Kaisei’s Birthday!

He became 21years old.

Yesterday(17th), there was a “Bonenkai (Year-end party) of Tomozuna-beya”. Businessmen, students, friends, etc, etc, there are many “bonenkai” in December in Japan. Many people go to (have to go??) a lot of “bonenkai” parties.

Purpose is to forget bad things of the year wishing good year coming … but, probably, the purpose for many people is just to be drunk!!!

So, we, Tomozuna-beya had a party as well with our rikishi, oyakata and directors of our supporters’ organization(Koenkai).

<31st December>

We, Tomozuna-beya, had days throughout this year surrounded by fans from Japan and from overseas. Kaio has tried to go on to dohyo no matter what difficulties attacked him and all Wakaishu have supported Kaio. Four shindeshi from this spring have been cheerful and fine.

It was a tough year for NSK with series of troubles which we have never had.

2007 is closing with many thoughts.

Thank you very much for your support for our rikishi and for entire NSK throughout the year.
